& GEORGE!

meet george - the father of the demon children that fell in love with emily and i on the ferry.  i drew a picture of demon child two to calm her down after demon child one started erasing emily's drawings and dumping the eraser shavings on my head.  i waited for the mom to interfere, but she thought this was all so very hilarious.  ha ha ha.  demon child two and demon child birth-er insisted i sketch daddy.  i was quite sure george, who had been rather quiet and detached this whole time as his daughters planted themselves on complete stranger's laps yelping in greek, would not be down.  shock shock shock, to my awkward shock, he was really into it.  afterwards, he whipped out his hot pink digital camera to tell me about his life - even though we did not speak the same language.  he showed me his friends (woo!) and his motorcycle (vroom!), then asked me to include that in the drawing as well.  these people milked us for all we were worth - babysitters/personal artists.  and then, he spent a long while showing me a picture of him without his beard pointing back and forth between his current facial situation to his former chin in the photo and smiling, laughing and looking at me expectantly.  it was apparently crucial for me to grasp the fact that he did not always have a barba, that he perhaps switches back and forth upon whim and does indeed have fleshy skin under the hair.  afterwards, we proceeded to take 80430376 pictures with our new greek family upon their request.  the barbarian girls were convinced emily and i were sisters.  i guess i do resemble a 5'9'' lanky german girl with short brown hair.  i miss my devil children.  they used their limited english to tell me that they 'love me forever.'  the mom practically sat in my lap as well.  oh, grecians - you crazies.

don't float so fast

what are you going to do with your life?

if it isn't live on an island, you're wrong!!!

look at a stationary thing, walk a few steps in any direction and look again.  it's a whole different view.

don't be afraid, you have just got your eyes closed

i kinda forget i exist when i'm at a reallllly good concert.  its as if i was made exclusively to listen to the music.

to know a song well enough to be able to anticipate every note of it, every breath of it, and have your suspense met above and beyond expectation is a high i can't describe.
mum belongs on that elite pedestal of bands that are better live.

call off the search

i find it bizarre when people say they did not expect a certain action of me.  essentially its expressing their surprise that i am venturing outside the realm of the predictable actions they have equated me with.  identities are restricting.  they limit your movement.

the past is used to draw a set of conclusions so decisions can be made upon how to act and how others will act.  people like to know what's coming, the unforeseen throws us off.

put into this situation of not really knowing anyone, you are uninhibited from being purely yourself, whoever that may be in the midst of this period of constant redefinition in our lives.

i feel so free.

don't hunt for the specific meaning in your life.  there is none.  just experience it.  'meaning' is just a concept we made up anyway.  do what you amore!

memento mori

i'm going loco.  i haven't slept in the longest while.  but who cares cause one week from now, i'll be spending the night lying on the cold sand of mykonos watching space pass.  and in just a few days, i'll be in sicily, crossing off another thing on my mental "to do" list in life - visit a catacomb!!!!!!

"life is short, and shortly it will end; death comes quickly and respects no one, it destroys everything and takes pity on no one."

dancing behind my eyelids

"The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.  Each evening we see the sun set.  We know that the earth is turning away from it.  Yet the knowledge, the explanation, never quite fits the sight."  - John Berger

i just took that picture, and it's completely unaltered - but still doesn't do the sight justice.  the sky was radiating hot pink and bright purple - it was unreal.  today's been pretty dreary prepping for midterms.  i've had to spend a gorgeous day inside writing papers, but then i see colors like that right outside my window and remember where i am.

ps - please enjoy this lovely picture of the recent lunar eclipse a friend took:
pps - when baking chocolate chip cookies, i highly recommend replacing the chips with chunks of chocolate bar and the butter with PEANUT butter:
